Our story

Hot rods. Cars. Bikes.
All welcome.

How a friend's biker bar on West 25th became a people-friendly, road-friendly, planet-friendly little brewpub.

The name

Why there's a bike on the sign.

This spot was the Garage Bar, a motorcycle bar run by friends of ours. When we took it over in 2012, we kept the spirit and changed the wheels: from motorcycles to bicycles. Fewer engines, more neighbors. That's why our logo is a bike.

We refreshed the interior, built a new patio, put a tap wall behind the bar and a tiny brewhouse beside it, and called it Nano Brew: small batches, big personality, steps from the West Side Market.

⚑ Lulu's words from the Otter note, lightly shaped. OK to say “run by friends of ours”?

The one-barrel

The smallest brewery
in the neighborhood.

Beside the bar sits a one-barrel brewhouse, about 20 gallons a batch. It's where Nano got its name: small enough to try anything, and pour it a few feet from where it was brewed.

⚑ Who are the brewers in these photos? Can we name them? Honest one-liner for guests: “Our 1-barrel is between batches. Stay tuned.”

Google review

“Great beers, great vibes. Really can’t miss with this one.”

All year

Four seasons.
Multiple beer gardens, multiple patios.

Spring, the patio opens and the sunglasses come out. Summer, golden hour lasts all evening under the string lights. Fall, sweaters on, Browns on. And starting November 11, the whole place turns into Nano HolidayLand. Every season, everyone: families, friends, beer drinkers, non-drinkers and dogs.

The family

Little sib to
Market Garden.

Market Garden Brewery opened in 2011 beside the West Side Market; Nano followed a block down West 25th. Market Garden's production brewery brews for both, and our one-barrel began as their test kitchen for beer: small batches poured here first, the best ones went big. Beers like Prosperity Wheat, Yuzu Lager, Cleveland Lite Lager, Progress Pilsner and Groundhog Day have all won GABF and World Beer Cup medals. We're not bragging. We're related.
